[android-developers] server callbacks to mobile client

Hi:

I am trying to implement a service that server needs to, on occasions, make contacts with mobile client.
Is SMS the only possible server -> client callback mechanism?  Is there another way?

And for SMS, is the best way to send SMS is by way of email -> SMS (sending email to phone#@provider.com)?
